Botafumeiro · Barcelona
Botafumeiro still selects its seafood by auction at the fish market each day, a practice it has followed since opening in 1975.
Botafumeiro opened in Barcelona's Gràcia district in 1975, the work of Galician chef Moncho Neira. The kitchen sources shellfish and fish daily from the markets of Galicia and Catalonia, selected at auction, then grilled over oak coals or baked in the oven. The dining room is wood-panelled and spacious, with valet parking and two private salons for 8 to 10 guests plus a larger room, El Privado, for up to 45.
Regulars order the octopus, baked spider crab, warm royal crab with mustard cream and lobster paella, or the hand-picked crab meat staff recommend table-side. It also caters corporate events and group dining, with a sommelier on hand for wine pairing.
